"This holiday season marks a very important step for all three major players in the video game space", that is a line you have probably read several times over this year. The "Motion Game War" or "Kinect vs Move" are titles of features in magazines and on websites everywhere.
Here is the truth.
While Nintendo has the casual and motion gaming market absolutely conquered at this point, Sony and Microsoft are battling for second place. Again. Furthermore, the only one with the potential to fail in this ambitious contest is Microsoft. The corporate giant has put the pressure on itself with appearances on Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show and your local Macy's proclaiming to be the future of video games. 'Be the controller' Microsoft says. Building up such high expectations could be the setup up for failure unless Microsoft comes through with a truly innovative and working piece of technology coupled with software that sparks imagination of all ages. Holding true to their promise.
Sony on the other hand is simply making a motion controller that is more accurate than your Wii-mote which many gamers are familiar with. No suprises here. They are not promising us gold on a silver platter. In fact, I haven't even seen advertising on mainstream television yet. The motion controller is set to release in a couple of weeks. No pressure for Sony as their product is not backed by hype and the magical promises from Peter Molyneux. If Sony's Move becomes a hit and sells well through word of mouth the company will be happy, if not they'll get over it.
Meanwhile Nintendo can rest on their success for a bit, drop the price of the Wii this holiday, relax and take the 'wait and see' approach. There will be many Kinect sensors sold this holiday, probably millions worldwide but it cannot come close to the numbers Nintendo has been pushing, nor the numbers Microsoft needs to achieve in order to make a dent. 3DS anyone? Yeah, that is coming out soon too. Glasses free 3D, Nintendo is relaxed.
Another thing I will avoid in this article is the subject of price, there are multiple ways the price point can be spun between Move and Kinect. Price will not matter, only the perception of Grandma or Mom at Walmart and how bad their children want one or the other, perhaps the adults themselves want it.
I am not here to put down any particular console maker, simply to point out that the motion control business has become a massive charade of advertising, social media battles and Kevin Butler pointing at the screen pretending to shoot things with his fingers. Pew pew pew.
What are your thoughts on Microsoft Kinect, Sony's Move or Nintendo's Wii? Who do you have your money on and why? We'd love to hear it.

We love ourselves some Majornelson, don't we? Yes. Larry Hyrb, Direcor of Programming over at Xbox has announced on his blog that Microsoft is releasing a brand new, well - modified Xbox 360 controller this fall. The redesigned controller comes with a new d-pad that can be transformed into an analog stick.
If that blows your mind too much to comprehend you can check out the video he posted along with some images. The controller is releasing November 9th for 65 USD and is only be available with the new Play & Charge Kit.

Namco Bandai dropped the news that Ace Combat Joint Assault is now available for PSP in North America and will be downloadable on PSPgo starting September 7th.
The game will feature over 40 state of the art aircraft, a variety of action-packed adversarial and team-based multiplayer modes via ad hoc or infrastructure as well as other single and multiplayer modes. Locations include Tokyo, San Francisco and London.
Check out the new trailer as well.

Bethesda Softworks' SMART system enabled shooter is due to release early 2011 and in order to get the word out about the game the publisher just released a fourth developer diary named "Endless Horizon". We have posted the clip after the break.
The game is looking great and has impressed press outlets overall. The latest dev diary has the Splash Damage team discussing their inspiration for Brink’s unique art style and setting.

Gearbox Software's Borderlands was the biggest suprise hit of 2009 and took on Fallout 3 epic DLC proportions with continued support and new content. If you are one of the few who have waited to purchase the game and/or any of the DLC you are in luck because Gearbox just announced the Game of the Year edition which will drop on PC and consoles on October 12th for 49.99 and 59.99 USD respectivly.
The game will include all of the DLC released so far including Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, a code for the new DLC, and a new comprehensive Pandora map.
Sounds like an awesome deal to me folks, let's kill some Skag!
All of the UFC Undisputed fans out there are gonna love this post! We have just received a new trailer from THQ of the upcoming UFC Undisputed 2010 for PSP and it is looking awesome! Check the trailer out after the jump!

It was just a matter of time when Microsoft was going to increase their annual and monthly subscription rates. It is now official, Xbox LIVE will cost 59.99 for 12 months, 24.99 for 3 months and 9.99 for a 1 month subscription on Microsoft's online service.
Majornelson announced on his blog today that the changes will be effective as of November 1st 2010 in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the US.
In order to facilitate the relationship with the current subscribers Microsoft is offering a 'Price Lock' program in which you'll be able to renew at a discounted 39.99. In addition some retailers like Amazon are discounting 12 month Xbox LIVE Gold Subs for the same price.

Many people will probably complain and scream about this but I have never paid for price for my LIVE subscription, it comes down to being a smart shopper. Besides, Microsoft will be adding new services later this fall such as ESPN streaming, Kinect chat and others. Is it worth the extra 10 bucks a year? Well, we will all be the judge of that.
Next week marks another big gaming convention with Pax Prime in Seattle. Ubisoft will be out in full force showing off a 'stellar' lineup of their upcoming releases. "Each booth will feature a variety of Ubisoft's upcoming releases and lots of fun prizes for booth visitors" as it is stated by Ubi PR.
Ubisoft will have plenty of exclusive Xbox Kinect games present including Your Shape, the first public demo of Child of Eden and MotionSports. If motion games aren't your bag you can hang out and play HAWX 2 multiplayer, Outland or Just Dance 2.
Of course what would an Ubisoft booth be without Assassin's Creed Brotherhood? The game will be playable and if you pre-order the game on site you'll receive a sweet t-shirt! I hope you pre-ordered those Pax tickets.

I am trying to finish off Red Faction Guerrilla and Alan Wake.

Collector's Editions are great but the ones that include zombie replicas, bloody playing cards and poker chips are amazing. Ready for more Ezio? Why, do we have the thing for you! Ubisoft just released a new video walkthrough from last week's Gamescom. Brotherhood is the continuation of Assassin's Creed 2 and Ezios struggle against the Templar order. We didn't struggle to put up the clip for you so enjoy.
Before you watch the developer diary commentary in this Bulletstorm demo from Gamescom I would like to tell you that this is a 'video game'. What do I mean by that? Bulletstorm isn't going after realism, perks in online multiplayer or product placement. People Can Fly, Epic and EA teamed up to create the ultimate over the top shooter that will make gamers cry out: 'Awesome!' when the game hits in spring 2011.
The game looks stellar, shows off kill combos and a massive boss! Check it out.

It is one of my favorite times of the year. Not because fall is here though, that part stinks. The reason for my excitement is that the latest release of the annual FIFA series is upon us. Before you put this post on the fanboy shelf check out the first two trailers EA released for FIFA 11.
After a couple of years of the 'Be A Pro' mode, which was limited to field players only we finally get to actually play the goalkeeper. The new mode is detailed in the video below. Also check out the quick tutorial on fatigue and stamina.

Fighting video game mash ups are pretty cool right? Well, Marvel and Capcom think so. In fact they love the idea so much that they decided to team up for a third game. Marvel vs Capcom 3 is the latest and greatest and we have 2 gameplay clips for you. Check them out after the break.
Geoff Keighley has risen to nerd stardom over the past couple of years and got to make some big announcements on his show as well as reveals. This week won't be different, on Gametrailers TV he will be airing a teaser for Telltale Games new game(s), at least his twitter feed says so.
Check out GTTV tomorrow night on Spike TV where we might see the reveals of Jurassic Park and hopefully (please!) the Back to the Future point and click adventure. Both games had been announced earlier this year.

Valve just sent over a new teaser trailer of Portal 2 featuring the all new co-op mode showing the two adorable non-human characters. This teaser is just that, a teaser. It does make us really excited to play it though! Along with this teaser we also received news that Valve will be showing off the co-op at PAX next week in Seattle, WA.
Now go make some portals already!

Take-Two announced today that the latest BioShock 2 DLC, called Minerva’s Den will release on August 31 for $10 on PSN and 800 MSP on Xbox Live. A PC version is to follow soon. The DLC will introduce a new character and run parralel to BioShock 2's single player campaign. The download will add 6 new little sisters for you to protect, or harm?
What will you be doing in this additional chapter? Well, players can expect to take control of Subject Sigma, another Alpha series big daddy. Sophia Lamb however will not be the villain in this side story, instead Reed Wahl is the reason for your troubles. Arguably the coolest part is that Brigid Tennenbaum will make a return to Rapture and help Sigma get to 'The Thinker' - a marvelous supercomputer controlling parts of Rapture.
Color me excited.

One of my most anticipated games of the year, Enslaved from Ninja Theory will be released in regular and Collector's Edition versions later this fall. The Namco Bandai published title will ship with a Hard-backed artbook and the Enslaved original soundtrack on a CD. That's a compact disc folks, used to be a popular format, okay?
A price has not yet been released, neither have we gotten word on if North America will be graced by the CE.
What do you guys think?
What has been available to iPad users for a while is now also available for iPhone and iPod Touch users. Download the free app here and stream away. The only thing you will need is an active Netflix subscription.
The app allows viewers to access their instant qeue, add items and stream the entire instant library anywhere. The app performs pretty well over 3G but better on a WiFi network connection. The one thing that is missing - disc qeue management.

I am a sucker for video game based live action shorts. Bungie's last Halo game will get the series treatment starting August 29th. The 'Deliver Hop' campaign will air on several mainstream TV networks including BC, CBS, MTV, FOX, Spike TV, SyFy, Comedy Central, ESPN, F/X, G4, TNT, TBS and the Discovery Channel.
Here is another teaser of what's to come. I am not a Halo fanboy but boy, these shorts make me want to play the campaign very badly.
Lost Planet 2 is not a great game but it is a good game. That's why I can recommend it for 20 bucks. Grab this deal at Newegg.com - they have the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions on sale for 19.99 USD with Free Shipping. Get your monster hunting on co-op style.
It seems like there are more tracklists to post about these days than girls change boyfriends. Activision sent out a press release this morning detailing the 80 exclusivly unique songs for DJ Hero 2 which drope October 19th. The songs have been made up from 105 of "the hottest hits" from artists like Lady Gaga and David Guetta. There is also a new ongoing contest on the game's facebook page where avid DJ Heros can win stuff until September 20th.
I really enjoyed DJ Hero and actually paid full price for it last year on day one. The game was rock solid, fun and refreshing. Lets hope DJ Hero 2 adds to that.
Here is the song list:

I admit, I might have just made this post for Ronnie but I do want everyone else to see this short in what surly has to be a series in the weeks leading up to 'The Fall of Reach'. It's July 23rd, 2552 on Planet Reach - when there still was a tomorrow. Check it out.
Portal 2 is so far away but yet so close. Two more gameplay trailers have been released today showing off the repulsion gel and the aerial faith plate. Both look mindbogglingly awesome and we can't wait to get our hands on the game.
We missed you Daniel Craig. That's why we are posting the latest James Bond 007: Blood Stone trailer taking place in Istanbul. Where there's a bond, there is a...well, explosions, hand to hand combat, impossible jumps and car chases....oh, and a 'way' of course.
Enjoy the butt kicking Brit below.

Portal 2. That's a game made by Valve and they just hit us with a new trailer starring Stephen Merchant as Wheatley. Believe me when I say it, if you look close enough you can spot all the little pixels Valve put in the game. Amazing.
It's that time of the week again folks. This week's Playstation Store update brings us a few cool things, dangerously cool things.
The most notable downloads are, of course Shank - the 2D co-op hack and slash epic from Klei for 14.99, PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap for 6.99 and for 9.99 you can get your 3D on with Motorstorm 3D Rift which offers a sample platter from Pacific Rift in the third dimension. We all know the fourth one is a little bit cooler.
If you fancy yourself some protection ("Protection from what Tommy?", "Zee Germans?") youll be able to purchase 1 and 2 year plans for 44.99 abd 59.99 respectivly which will extend Sony's limited 1 year warranty.
Of course there are demo's, PSN Plus stuff and Rock Band songs as usual. Check the full list out at the PS Blog itself.
Now go update those firmwares, oh right. Sorry.

You were probably wondering just how many times I can bring up Gran Turismo 5 in a justifiable manner. Well, here is one more post made up Gran Turismo 5 news. I am going to type it one more time: Gran Turismo 5.
In all seriousness, GT5 was present at Gamescom over in Germany this past week and while Polyphony was over in Europe they announced some new features such as a (semi) track editor, the inclusion of carts and more details regarding the A-Spec and RPG style B-Spec mode Yamauchi loves so much. Apparently that was enough for the six person committee to vote the game 'Best of Show'. Maybe the hype and years of waiting is somehow justified? European press seems to think so.
Sony had a very strong showing and also took the award for 'Hardware Accessory' with the Sony Playstation Move. Catch the full list of winners in all categories below.
Best of Gamescom: Gran Turismo 5 (Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland GmbH)
Hardware accessories: PlayStation Move (Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland GmbH)
Console games: Gran Turismo 5 (Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland GmbH)
Mobile games: Super Scribblenauts (Warner Bros. Games)
Online games: Guild Wars 2 (NCsoft West)
PC games: Crysis 2 (Crytek GmbH)
Best of Family Entertainment: Kirby's Epic Yarn (Nintendo of Europe GmbH)

Microsoft has just announced that Crackdown 2 will be getting two new DLC add-ons. The first one is free and is called Toy Box which is like Keys To The City from Crackdown 1 were you can spawn vehicles and turn god mode. And the second one will cost you 560 MSP.
Some of the new features in the 560 MSP add-on are two new vehicles (wall climbing mini-tank, and the Squad Chopper,) five new toys (The Mass Driver, Portable Launch Pads, Stickler Grenade, Thrusters, and Mags on Characters,) and finally new agent suit colors and 10 new Achievements.

Keys to the City: Made notorious in the first “Crackdown” expansion as the ultimate cheat mode, Keys to the City returns to “Crackdown 2” and puts an even bigger set of tools at your disposal, including God Mode, Infinite Ammo, Fly Cam, spawning of weapons, gadgets and more, the ability to freeze the time of day, and pushing all skills to the maximum to become faster, stronger and more lethal.[via: GamerScoreBlog]
Level 6 Reward: Fans who reach Level 6 on all Agent skills will be rewarded with the new Thruster Ability. Thruster Ability is like having jetpacks for your boots, giving Agents built-in vertical propulsion to activate flying with the Wingsuit no matter where you are in the game.
Vehicle Tag: Once you’re done taking down the Freaks and the Cell, join your friends for a thrilling new multiplayer mode where up to eight Agents can compete in these six arenas: Speed is the Quay, Industrial Action, Maim Street, Skid Row, Beachhead and The Sum of Human Knowledge.
Two New Vehicles: Access two new vehicles: the wall climbing aquatic mini-tank called the Agency ATV and the Squad Chopper, which allows four players to jump in and man their own weapon, including the proximity mine launcher, precision rocket launcher, twin machine guns and nose machine gun.
Five New Toys: Whether you’re soaring to greater heights or orchestrating a massive explosion, get creative with the following new toys: The Mass Driver (turreted gravity bending weapon), Portable Launch Pads (allows Agents to create their own launch pad jumps), Stickler Grenade (bouncing grenade that sets off smaller explosive charges as it bounces), Thrusters (allow vertical thrust), and Mags on Characters (allow Mag Grenades to be attached to characters).
Two Avatar Awards: Deck your Agent in the latest gear. “Toy Box” offers two Avatar Awards to customize your Xbox LIVE Avatar with the Xbox Green Suit (must complete the Rocketeer Achievement) and Green Helmet.
10 New Achievements: Pacific City never sleeps and neither do the exploits. Industrious Agents will be rewarded with 10 new Achievements and 250 Gamerscore:

The SEGA published game which releases on October 19th is a third person action sci-fi shooter and brand new IP.
What will you be playing?
The demo will be taking place on a large Russian space station where players battle lots of evil Russian robots, hijack massive mechs called 'Walkers' (No, this is not a MGS reference) and finally take on the demo boss called 'Argus'.
I am getting a lot more excited for this game which includes jet boosted powersiles. Do I need to go on? Oh, also, it has cover. It has to be great, right?
Attention racing gamers on a budget! O-Games' Superstars V8 Racing will be coming to the Playstation Network for a bargain price of 19.99 USD. There has been no mention as to when it actually will hit the PSN Store but it can't be far off. O-Games also mentioned they had looked at a 39.99 USD retail packaged version but after evaluating the digital option, decided to discount the game due to cost savings and distribute it that way.
It's a win-win.
