Rumor: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Leak

Posted by: 6/2/2011

Kotaku has released an article that has supposedly leaked a bunch of Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer information. Keep in mind that Kotaku has released a ton of info regarding other titles that havn’t came to light. With so many leaks about the game it’s hard to tell whats real and what is hoax. A bunch of this information may change because Infinity Ward is still developing this game and/or it’s just a tub full of hoax. The article has since been edited to include the information regarding the following tweet from @fourtwozero.

On the same day via twitter @fourzerotwo stated “Lots of false #mw3 info being reported as fact. There is no stopping power, OMA (One Man Army), Commando, or Nukes. Beyond that, you’ll just have to wait and see.”

Here is what we got from the article:

New perks include:

Blind Eye: This makes you immune to computer-controlled and player-controlled killstreaks. The pro version makes your launchers lock on faster and gives you extra bullet damage to vehicles.
Assassin: This makes you immune to UAV, thermal, and heartbeat sensors. The pro version also makes you immune to CUAV, EMP and no longer shows your name in red or the crosshair in red when you’re targeted.
Point Guard: Every two assists count as a kill towards your killstreak.
Dead Silence: You make no noise.
Recon: Gives you a special kind of radar to spot enemies, most likely. We’re not sure on this one.

Modern Warfare 3′s killstreaks include:

EMP Grenade: Temporarily takes out all area electronics.
Littlebird: A tiny remote-controlled helicopter.
Precision Airstrike: Calls in an airstrike on a targeted area.
Stealth bomber: Calls in a B2 Spirit to carpet bomb along a line designated by the player.
Remote Turret: A remote controlled turret.
Directional UAV: A UAV that can be directed into areas to scan for enemies.
Remote Mortar: Direct a mortar team using a zoomable camera view of the map to call in strikes.
Airdrop Trap: A booby-trapped airdrop.
Ammo Resupply: An ammo reloading airdrop.
Escort Airdrop: A protected airdrop.
Specialist Strike Package: This one remains a mystery.

The descriptions of the perks and streaks look like they are shooting in the dark based on the name alone. Only very few go into detail other than what’s in the name. The article also states that there is 20 multiplayer maps that they are working on. Of course there would be so many. They play test a ton of maps until they finalize maps and decide what is retail, DLC, and ones that go to the circular file cabinet. If they released 20 maps from day one the multiplayer would be so huge and the campaign would suffer to the point of having a extremely short playtime. I have seen it done in Homefront. Multiplayer is great but in turn it severely hurt Campaign.

Many skeptics of these tweets say that he didn’t deny any other information regarding the game released in the article going after Kotaku directly. Well, to that I would have to say a tweet is only 140 characters long. Plus, the leak of the info in the article would take longer than a tweet to debunk. It seems that he did deny a bunch of stuff related to the article. Almost to the point of actually questioning the validity of the article. To say anything is final in a game that is still in development cycle is anything but right. Stuff is played with and tweaked, tested and torn apart many times before anything comes to light. Taking any information leaked is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Some of the information and almost very little can be taken for fact. Calling to all the fans of the series, it’s better to spread the right words than look like a donkey when you’re wrong.
