Rumor: PS4 is on track for a 2012 release

Posted by: 7/10/2011

According to an article in Digitimes a company called Foxconn and Pegatron Technology will be heading up the manufacturing of the console in late 2011. The same companies that have headed the production of the PS3. The short but information filled article states that the companies based out of Taiwan are shooting for a launch of 20 million units that will have “featuring body movement-based control like Kinect” out of the box.

This comes after the announcement of the Wii U and also the speculation of the new Xbox in 2012. This however shoots down the ten year commitment cycle that Sony’s Jack Trenton boasted with the release of the PS3. Jack Trenton has seen many requests to step down since the wake of the “Anonymous” hacking incident. Can this be a the turning of a new leaf for Trenton stepping down?

It will bring it to six years and the games are great right now. They are getting to the cookie cutter stage. They are not doing a bunch of innovation with the existing hardware. One year past the existing unspoken five year console standard is plenty for myself. A revamp of existing services and hardware is needed in the industry.

Please, Sony don’t bring back the boomerang controller!
