Review: The Walking Dead – Long Road Ahead

Posted by: 9/24/2012

At this point it goes almost without saying that Telltale Games’ ‘The Walking Dead’ has established itself as one of the best story driven games this year and most certainly the most outstanding episodic adventure to date. While episodes 1 and 2 seemed to be pretty tense, graphic and emotional on the player, they appear dwarfed by Telltale’s latest episode in the 5 part adventure series.

The Walking Dead Episode 3 literally left me with my mouth gaping open at times, much like a great Hollywood movie we may see on opening day, as the events went haywire throughout the latest episode. Telltale has setup Episode 3 ‘Long Road Ahead’, with many of the characters on the edge and there was an overwhelming feeling that something monumental would happen in this episode.

Since The Walking Dead is an extremely narrative and decision influenced series, I won’t be heading into spoiler territory but the title implies that the group will be setting off to leave the Motel. There are some absolute shockers in this episode that left me angry and paranoid. A few months have passed now, the group has its tensions and it plays out in ways players may not expect.

Lee and Clementine as well as other characters in the series, do a lot of soul searching in this episode. While there isn’t as much action in ‘Long Road Ahead’, the amount of character development, and introduction of new a character, make for a nice change in pace for The Walking Dead.

It is very difficult to convey just how good the third episode really is, without talking about all of the events which occur in ‘Long Road Ahead’. Telltale has done another fantastic job in writing a piece of content, that will have players experience the next step in this post apocalyptic story – Episode 3 is a must play.

Score: 9 / 10
