Electronic Arts has announced layoffs in Los Angeles, Montreal, and other smaller companies. It has been described as a transition for EA, and that thousands of employees have been “retrained and redeployed to work on the new platforms and initiatives,” said EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. “But when it is not possible to redeploy a team, we soften the tough decisions with assistance,” Gibeau added. A rumor that EA was shutting both EA Montreal and Visceral Games spread on Twitter. That rumor was quickly shot down. EA Montreal and Visceral have been developing Army of Two: The Devils Cartel, which is set to release on March 26th. Visceral also recently released Dead Space 3.
