Kerbal Space Program Updated to 0.18.4

Posted by: 2/15/2013

The guys at Squad gave KSP fans a little Valentine’s Day gift yesterday, releasing the newest version of Kerbal Space Program, 0.18.4. While this was mainly an update to fix some bugs and prep for the next big update, 0.19, this newest update is significant for a few reasons. The first is that the this latest version is running on the new Unity 4 game engine. This allows KSP to multiprocessing, meaning the performance of the game will increase significantly. Unity 4 also works with Linux, meaning Linux users will be able to play the game soon. Squad has said that they are finishing up the code for the Linux version, and that it should be ready in the next few months.

In addition to the full game getting an update, the demo version has also been given some love. The demo is now based on the 0.18.3 version, with many features taken out. The only celestial bodies in the demo are the Sun, Kerbal, and the Mun. You can only launch five simultaneous launches, and the demo version has many parts unavailable. It is still a great way to try out the game before purchasing it.

I am a huge KSP fan, as is evident by my first write up for onPause. Look for more news about KSP in the very near future.
