‘See PlayStation’s Future’ on February 20th

Posted by: 2/1/2013

Well, that came out of nowhere.

After Kaz Hirai recently dropped the word that Sony would let Microsoft make the first move in the ‘next-gen’ console battle, Sony has mysteriously opened a web page indicating that there will be a big announcement regarding PlayStation’s future. We think it’s not a Slim PS Vita, Lair 2 or Move 2.0 – this is a big one.

What does it all mean? The official PlayStation website teases a February 20th announcement at 6pm Eastern Standard Time with a Twitter hashtag of #PlayStation2013 which is already running wild with rampant speculation. Of course it is, it’s the Internet.

The website also allows people to sign up with their emails to ‘be the first to know’ which oddly requires an age confirmation – maybe there will be some reason for it? Obviously the first thought goes to mature game reveals as they run the inevitable ‘Killzone 2005 E3 Trailers’, the other, you guessed it – to nude women with Sony and PlayStation body paintings. We shall see.

Of course the biggest question is, will it be the PlayStation 4 announcement? The hope, of course, is that it is the long awaited news of a new truly next gen console. For now we can only speculate but several Media outlets have received invites captioned to the ‘Playstation Meeting 2013’ at the very date and time as the teased date on said website. There was a similar run of events when the Vita was revealed.

Industry Analyst and GameTrailers TV Michael Pachter has already given his 2 cents on his Twitter account:

Sony is inviting investors and media to the Feb 20 event; that means console announcement. I’m genuinely excited, although I will be in LA.

We can’t say that we disagree with him. For now check out the teaser trailer below and watch the Intertubes for the usual and unavoidable leaks.
