E3 2013: Sony shows off indie games at conference

Independent games are bigger than ever, and Sony is putting a lot of attention on indie games for the upcoming PlayStation 4.

Sony is allowing indie developers to self-publish on the PlayStation Network, and will not charge for title updates. This contrasts Microsoft’s strategy with Xbox One and indie games. For Xbox One, indie developers must find a publisher, and it will cost money to apply patches to your game, according to DayZ developer Dean Hall in this Eurogamer article.

At Sony’s E3 2013 press conference on Monday, a bunch of indie game developers took the stage to show off their games that will be coming to the PlayStation 4. The games included Don’t StarveMercenary Kings, Octodad: Deadliest Catch, Secret PonchosRay’s the DeadOutlastOddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, and Galak-Z.
