Steam Summer Sale 2014: Day one recommendations

Posted by: 6/19/2014

I can’t believe it is that time of year again. Valve has blessed us with cheap games to keep us busy during the summer. With climate change and temperatures rising into the 100’s this year, it will be better to just sit inside in the AC and play video games all day. Here is what you should be purchasing on Steam today.

witcher-2-2

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (-80% $3.99) – It is hard to not be excited for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after the amazing stage demo at the Microsoft press conference last week. Get caught up on the story of Geralt before the game releases next February. Just make sure you have a decent computer, because this is a great looking game.

XCOM: Complete (-67% $16.49) – XCOM: Enemy Unknown was one of the best games released in 2012. Then in 2013 Firaxis released an excellent expansion called XCOM: Enemy Within. Steam is offering these two games (because let’s be honest, Enemy Within had enough content to be its own game), plus the small pieces of DLC that was released for Enemy Unknown. It is a great price for a fantastic package.

Far Cry 3 (-75% $7.49) – Hey, it is another game with a sequel coming out soon! Far Cry 3 was by far one of the best shooters, if not one of the best games, released in 2012. This is one of the better games that uses the Ubisoft mechanics, like uncovering parts of the map and having loads of side missions. If you’re looking for a beautiful game with incredible shooting mechanics, look no further.

Under $5 Picks

Papers, Please (-50% $4.99) – If you read my game of the year list for 2013, then you know I am a huge fan of Papers, Please. In the game you play as a border agent for the fictional country Arstozka, where you determine who can and cannot enter the country. As the game continues, a brilliant story unfolds that involves secret societies, assassination plots, and situations that will be make you question your morals.

Hotline Miami (-60% $3.99) – I don’t know what else I can say about Hotline Miami. I guess the only thing I can think of is if you haven’t played this game yet, go buy it now. It is only $4, and it is a very enjoyable experience. Just remember to check those corners!
