EA, Xbox team up for $5 Game Subscription Model a la Netflix

Today EA and Microsoft announced that they have teamed up for a video game subscription model on the Xbox One for $5 a month or $30 for the annual membership. This will get gamers access to some of EA’s top games on the Xbox One, including FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4 which will all be part of the closed beta that will start today.

More games are already in the works and members will also get early access to game trials for titles such as Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA Live 15 and Dragon Age: Inquisition up to five days before they hit retail. The membership also includes a 10 percent discount on digital EA content and full games.

We will see if this service becomes something viable down the road but it sounds like a promising venture for EA, Xbox and of course gamers since $5 a month is a good deal for full retail titles.

In many ways this seems like the sort of model gamers have been asking for, for a long time. There is no release date for everyone to join just yet, we will keep you posted.
