Codemasters is working on current and next-gen Formula 1 games is the headline here. Today Codemasters has announced that it is and has been working on two versions of their latest Formula 1 game series. F1 2014 has been announced for PS3, Xbox 360 as well as the PC of course. While there will be no PS4 or Xbox One versions of F1 2014, there is a new game in the works which will hit sometime in 2015.

First things first, F1 2014 will release on October 17th and include all of the new cars with their updates to Turbo engines as well as less aerodynamics which will be driving on all of the current tracks with their 2014 drivers in their seats. In short, F1 2014 has kept track with all of the changes and updates made to the FIA Formula 1 season that is taking place right now.

F1 2014 also features what Codies calls a ‘refined handling on a pad and a new driver evaluation system that tunes game settings to your skill level to increase accessibility’. The studio wants all of the players to race competitively in a more quick progession – in short: Have more fun more quickly. Veterans of the series will be able to experience the true challenge of racing with the new cars, featuring more explosive power delivery (thanks to the Turbo engine) but less downforce. Players can customize their options and turning off all the assists. Sim fans should like this bit.

In F1 2014 the scenario mode has also been expanded along with refined career mode options for players to mess around with. That is all Codies was willing to share in terms of details, for now.

Creative director for the Codemasters F1 series, Stephen Hood, had this to say to introduce the new game:

“There’s been a dramatic shift in the sport; the largest shake up in the rules and regulations for a very long time and the new power units provide a very different kind of challenge, for both driver and team. By delivering all of these changes, F1 2014 will make for an exciting and refreshingly different experience. Additionally, with the new driver evaluation system analysing each player’s skill level and suggesting appropriate game settings, plus re-graded difficulty levels including a brand new Very Easy setting, we aim to deliver a thoroughly rewarding F1 experience for players of all abilities, from the novice to the seasoned pro.”

With regards to Next-Gen versions of the game, which fans really want to get their hands on, they are coming in 2015 for the Xbox One, PS4 and of course the PC. The game will launch earlier in the Formula One season and then go onto receive live digital updates, which is a very cool addition to the series – how early in 2015? Well, we don’t really know yet. These updates will deliver 2015 content into the game as the season unfolds, says Codemasters. Ensuring players will be competing against the same drivers and teams you watch week in and week out is one of the racing studios priorities.
