Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is currently broken on PC

We want to make everyone aware of a massive problem regarding the PC version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The popular first-person shooter is not working correctly on PC. Activision says that a fix is on the way, but there is currently no estimate when this patch will be released outside of “within weeks.”

The critical error can be seen below, which is an “out of memory” error, and also states that “you are probably low on hard disk space.” This is on my PC, which has 500 gigabytes free. The error pops up after a few seconds of being in the game’s main menu, and when the user clicks “Ok,” the game quits to the desktop.

This error first started affecting PC gamers around April 9th, and it was only within the past two days that Activision acknowledged the error, saying they have identified the cause of the issue, and are working on an update to resolve this issue, which will be released “in the coming weeks.” There is a big warning on the front page of the Activision support page.

A Steam forum thread about the error currently has over 300 posts, so this is not an isolated issue. Based on posts within the thread, all types of hardware is affected, so this is a software issue.

I believe “gamer entitlement” is something that is rampant within the community and usually for unnecessary reasons, but this is one time that I do believe PC gamers should be compensated for this error. I think free DLC would be good compensation. It is frustrating when a product that you pay $60 for doesn’t work as advertised, and this seems to be an issue that is more and more common with modern gaming.

We are trying to reach out to Activision on about the issue, and will update this post when new information is available.
