Evolution Studios (DriveClub) joins Codemasters

Today the racing community received some pretty big news. MotorStorm and DriveClub developer Evolution Studios will be joining Codemasters who have an excellent portfolio of racing game developers in its stable already. Sony had of course announced that Evolution Studios would be shut down after the lackluster results and a troubled launch of PS4 exclusive hopeful DriveClub.

We’re also delighted that Mick Hocking – formerly of Evolution Studios – will be taking the position of VP Product Development at Codemasters; a role which will see him responsible for all of the company’s studios – including the addition of the now multi-platform Evolution team in Cheshire.

Due to the success of F1 2015 and the excellent DiRT Rally over the past year, Codemasters has set its sights on growth again and as such is able to house another studio in its ranks. With GRID being one of the major franchises that has not quite found its voice over the past few titles, it seems Evolution could pick up where things were left off. Of course we could see a brand new IP emerge from this.

Time will tell where things go from here.
