So what is Nintendo’s Project Cafe?

Project cafe. No, its not a college campus coffee shack. Its not the coffee break at a certain time for all Nintendo employees. Its the rumored HD Wii 2 going to be announced at E3 2011. This console is suspected to win back the hardcore gaming market and also some third party developers. Its not for sure its the Wii successor. It is gonna be a interesting show at the Nintendo Press Conference at e3 this year. This console is rumored to have the following.

  • The CPU will be a custom built triple core IBM PowerPC chipset. With a higher clock speed than the 360 version.
  • The GPU is based on AMD’s R700 GPU architechure.
  • It will have full HD support up to 1080p.
  • Stereoscopic 3D is being considered because of the popularity of the 3DS.
  • The manufacturer Foxconn will ship the system in October, Meaning it may be out late 2011. But, Nintendo like the past has proven. They may stockpile systems for a spring release.
  • Project Cafe is expected to have a touch display/ standard display on the controller.
  • Based on the pictures. It looks like a SNES on steroids.
  • It is being designed for a social gaming experience to shelf the ill fated Nintendo Network. (Fingers crossed for the end of friend codes!)
  • Its final name has been rumored to be “Stream” or its possibly another codename.
  • Final retail price is expected at $350-$400. It may be adjusted to compete. They have a lot of room considering they are cranking out DS lite displays for dirt cheap.
  • It takes ports from the pc and Xbox 360 easily. Which makes it way easier and cheaper to make games.
  • Disc media will have a storage capacity of 25gb. (Doesn’t that scream blu-ray?)
  • Hard drive is out with a internal flash memory of 8gb.
  • USB support is rumored to be gone to protect piracy. Unknown how that’s gonna work.
