The popular independent games festival is coming to New York City this weekend. Being referred to as IndieCade East, both members from the industry and the public can try out 27 selected indie games. The festival will be held at the Museum of Moving Image in Queens.

In addition to trying out new indie games, festival attendees will be able to try out the new Oculus Rift, attend workshops, participate in an arcade tournament, and see a game being created live. Kris Piotrowski, the creator of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, and Doug Wilson, responsible for Johann Sebastien Joust, will be special guests at IndiCade East.

According to the press release, here is a list of activities that will be featured at the Museum.

  • Night Games, a Saturday evening of game play over two floors of the Museum
  • A New York-centric game design challenge: students and faculty from NYU Game Center and Parsons The New School for Design will face-off in a real-time competition to design a video game in one hour
  • Game Slam, in which game makers present their works and an ongoing festival Show and Tell, inviting attendees to share their own games and to receive feedback
  • A 10-game arcade tournament
  • A festival-long game jam, in which invited participants work day-and-night to build a game, culminating in a presentation of the completed games

More information about IndieCade East can be found on the IndieCade website, including ticket information.
