MAG, other games losing multiplayer services in January

Sony has announced that the games MAG, SOCOM Confrontation, and SOCOM 4 will have their online multiplayer services ended on January 28, 2014.

SOCOM Confrontation was released for the PlayStation 3 in October of 2008, and was an online-only shooter. It was developed by Slant Six Games, and received average reviews upon release.

MAG was developed by Zipper Interactive, famous for developing the SOCOM series. MAG focused on large player battles with servers having the ability to support up to 256 players simultaneously. It was originally released in January of 2010.

SOCOM 4 was released in April of 2011, and was developed by Zipper Interactive. It was the first and only PlayStation 3 SOCOM game to be developed by the original developers of the series.

It is not known at this time why Sony is ending the services, but a low number of users still playing online would not be a bad guess.
