Sarah’s Mech raises $122,200 for Canadian Cancer Society

Here is an awesome story for you. The MechWarrior Online fundraising towards the Canadian Cancer Society raised $122,200 in a little less than a month.

The fundraiser was set up for five-year-old Sarah Parries. Sarah loved to watch her father Jon play MechWarrior Online. She was particularly fond of the Jenner mech, as it moved fast and had night vision. Sarah had brain cancer, and her father reached out to Infinite Games Publishing about putting a message on the MechWarrior Online Facebook page wishing Sarah well. Unfortunately Sarah lost her battle with brain cancer before IGP was able to post that message. In response, IGP put up a small memorial on the game’s Facebook page.

After a huge outpouring of support from the MechWarrior Online community, IGP and Piranha Games decided to set up a fundraiser in Sarah’s name. They took the Jenner mech and personalized it with things Sarah was fond of, like rainbows and teddy bears. The Sarah Jenner was born, and users could buy the mech for $10, with the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Members of Sarah’s family, along with representatives from the Canadian Cancer Society will be present at a ceremony at the IGP offices on Friday, August 23. IGP will present the society with the money at this ceremony.
