Weather is headed to Cities: Skylines

Colossal Order added a day/night cycle, and the next logical place to take Cities: Skylines is seasonal. Paradox Interactive announced that the next major update for Cities: Skylines will feature weather effects, including snow.

The update is called ‘Snowfall,’ and it will add an in-game weather system that has your city reacting realistic to the changing weather. The biggest change will include making sure your citizens are prepared for those cold, snowy days.

You will need to build snow plow depots, and make sure you have enough energy to power the city and keep the citizens warm. Other new features include:

  • Now is the Winter of This Content: Rain and fog for existing maps, plus a new “Winter” map theme with snow and all of its challenges
  • The Streetcars You Desire: Expanded public transportation options, including easier management of existing lines – and Trams, a new system demanded by fans
  • World Warmth, Too: Cold weather increases demands for electricity, unless new water-based heat systems are in place
  • Plowers to the People: Build a snowplow depot to keep traffic flowing during winter weather, and employ new road maintenance systems to keep your streets in shape
  • New Chirps: #yeahthereare

Much like the ‘After Dark’ update, some features will be free to all players while others will be behind a paid expansion. ‘After Dark’ was $15, so expect ‘Snowfall’ to be similar to that in pricing. Check out the video below to see the snow in action!
