E3 2018: EA Play – Anthem

BioWare spent a good chunk of time today at EA Play talking about Anthem. Anthem is their upcoming multiplayer-focused adventure shooter and the discussed a bit about how a BioWare style story will fit in this style of game. Anthem puts the player into the role of a Freelancer, people who have taken on the task of exploring outside the safety of the wall, and protecting humanity. They do so with the aid of Javelins, their exosuits. There are 4 types of Javelin representing the game’s classes, and all are fully customizable.

Mark Darrah, the game’s Executive Producer, used the term “Our world, my story.” when describing how the game’s narrative would will work. Players will be able to go out into the world with their friends and participate in activities and missions together. When they return to the central hub is when they will see the consequences of their actions play out and witness their own unique story.

The traversal shown in the game play footage and the trailer looks to be a ton of fun and I really dig the look of this game. After the conference Darrah also confirmed that PvP would not be available at launch, so I really hope that BioWare is able to combine the story telling they are capable of with this style of game. Anthem has a release date set for February 22 and will be available on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
