E3 2018: Tetris Effect Announced for PS4 and PSVR

Posted by: 6/6/2018

The first of Sony’s “Countdown to E3 2018” announcements has been revealed as Tetris Effect, a new PS4 game with PSVR support. Developed by Enhance, the studio behind Lumines and Rez: Infinite, Tetris Effect will release this fall.

Tetris Effect gets its title from a real Harvard study, described in the trailer, where subjects would play Tetris for hours and then see falling tetrominoes outside of the game. Tetris Effect looks to “maximize” this effect through the use of more than 30 visually stunning, bordering on psychedelic, stages. Each stage will feature unique backgrounds, music, and special effects that will surely be something to behold in virtual reality or in 4k on PS4 Pro systems.

Classic modes of play including Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra have been confirmed in addition to new modes to be revealed closer to launch. An all-new “Zone’ mechanic has been revealed, which allows the player to stop time to get out of troublesome situations or just set up combos.

Tetris Effect will be playable on the E3 show floor, but plans for a public demo before the game’s release were announced without a date. For now, we’ll just have to settle for the trailer:
