Axiom Verge was having issues on the Epic Games Store

UPDATE: Looks like it is already fixed. Make sure you update to version 1.46. Originally story is below.

Axiom Verge is the latest game on the Epic Games Store to be given away for free. It’s a metroidvania game that was released a few years back to great reviews, so it’s a great deal. There is one problem with the game on the Epic Games Store: it’s missing a sound effect that causes the game to crash.

Users are reporting that when the player enters a specific room, the game crashes because it can’t find a sound effect. The sound effect is called “Steam,” and the room you enter has pipes that shoot out steam as an obstacle. It is looking like someone at Epic Games updated the game files by looking for any file with the word “Steam” in it and deleting them. But doing so is causing the game to crash.

Epic is trying real hard to win over PC gamers, but between pulling Ashen and Metro: Exodus from other storefronts at the last minute, and now this mistake, they don’t have the best reputation right now.
