I have been playing a borderline unhealthy amount of video games for most of my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It started with the family NES, trying to play The Legend of Zelda and Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! and watching my dad for tips. I could make a list of the systems I’ve played since, but it’s faster just to say I’ve never owned an Xbox. Never really out of a conscious objection to the platform, it just never appealed to me. I’ve also played PC games periodically, when I had the hardware to do so.

As time goes on, I find myself placing an ever-higher emphasis on fun in the games I play. I still like a good story, but it has to be damn good to keep me going without entertaining gameplay. That said, I’m less afraid than ever to dive in and play most anything for at least a little while (I just may not come back to it). I like to play as many new games as I can, and am a habitual early adopter (for better and for worse).

I have some experience podcasting and streaming, but I’ve never really written about video games before and I am very excited for the chance to do so for OnPause. I’ve craved an outlet for my gaming opinions for years, but never had the confidence or motivation to get started on my own

When I’m not playing games, thinking about games, or talking about games, I like to experiment in the kitchen. I fancy myself a satisfactory baker/pizza maker, but I’m always pushing to see if I can improve my recipes. I also enjoy watching soccer, with Sporting Kansas City and the Tulsa Roughnecks being my favorite teams.
