GameStop removes OnLive coupons from Deus Ex PC Version

If you bought a copy of Deus Ex Human Revolution for the PC from GameStop and expected to receive your OnLive coupon to unlock a copy of the game on the streaming service, you may be disappointed or furious.

A tipster send, what is presumably a real note from GameStop management, to GameSpy which indicates that the codes are to be pulled. This means, PC games will be opened, the coupon is pulled and the ‘Free’ copy is lost, forever.

GameStop has responded by stating the following:

Square Enix packed the competitor’s coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull and discard these coupons.

This could be a response to GameStop’s plans to implement their own streaming service, since they purchased Spawn Labs.

Either way, ripping out promised content from a finished product is all but ethical.
