After it was announced that Lucasarts would be closing up shop after being acquired by The Walt Disney Company, many Star Wars enthusiasts wondered what would happen to games based on the sci-fi franchise. It was announced today that Disney has entered into a multi-year licensing agreement with Electronic Arts to release Star Wars games.
According to the press release, EA will develop and publish new Star Wars games, “spanning all interactive platforms.” We assume this means all major consoles, as well as the PC. Disney will retain the rights to develop and publish games within the “mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.”
We also learned in the press release that Visceral and DICE will join BioWare as the three sole developers that will work on Star Wars games. The next question is, when will the first game be announced?
