IO Interactive cuts workforce by half, only focus is Hitman

GamesIndustry International is reporting that the Danish video game developer IO Interactive has reduced their workforce. This reduction is said to be close to half of the current employees at the company. IO is famous for the Hitman series, along with other games like Kane & Lynch and Freedom Fighters.

IO Interactive has also announced that the entire focus of the company will be on creating a new AAA Hitman game. A spoke person for Square Enix, who owns IO, gave the following statement.

“The studio will focus resolutely on the future vision for the Hitman franchise and is in pre-production on a new AAA Hitman project. However we have taken the difficult decision to cancel other studio projects and initiatives at IO and reduce the workforce in this studio, which will impact almost half of the employees currently at IO, as we make internal adjustments to face the challenges of today’s market.”

I really hope there was not a Freedom Fighters sequel that cut axed. We hope that those affected by the staff reduction will find work soon.
