UPDATE: Don Mattrick leaves Xbox, now CEO of Zynga

Posted by: 7/1/2013

The past few weeks have not been kind to Microsoft, Xbox, and the president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Don Mattrick. If this Geoff Keighley tweet is true, it would seem that Mattrick is on his way out of Microsoft.

Keighley sent the tweet on Monday morning. We are still looking into this story, but Keighley is not someone who would post something to get a rise out of people. Once there is an official announcement, we will pass it along to you.

UPDATE #1: Kara Swisher at All Things D originally broke the story about Mattrick leaving Microsoft. Multiple sources close to the situation told Swisher about Mattrick’s departure. We are still waiting on an official announcement from Microsoft about the situation.

Where Mattrick ends up next is still a topic of discussion. There is word that he may head to Zynga to help out the company with their problems, and could even take over as CEO of Zynga. Another possibility for Mattrick would be to take over as CEO at EA, as he was in the running for that position.

Once again, this story is still developing. We will keep you updated on any new developments.

UPDATE #2: Right after we posted our first update to the article, Yahoo! Finance posted a press release they received from Zynga confirming Swisher’s article from this morning. Don Mattrick has taken over as CEO at Zynga.
