Why the PS3 is the only Last-Gen console you need

Posted by: 11/29/2013

With a new generation finally having opened the doors to Next-Gen goodness we should not throw away our old trusted consoles just yet. While the Xbox 360 was a leader of the past generation here in the US, we believe the PS3 has the most staying power. The Xbox 360 did a fine job at revolutionizing the video game landscape with a great digital platform, the dashboard and even the Kinect – but going forward it won’t continue on this path.

With the Xbox One and PS4 being on our entertainment centers now,  there is not enough room for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 which is a sad reality. Sadly, the only reason to keep the 360 powered on are console exclusives which there aren’t many of these days. The PS3 however has some staying power beyond the console exclusives, even though the exclusive line up stayed strong in 2013, 7 years into the console’s life. Recently we saw The Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls and a new Ratchet and Clank game with Gran Tursimo still on its way.

Additionally to getting a much larger support in the games front, the PlayStation Plus membership has become the number one online subscription service out there. PSN Plus extends the life of the PS3 due to its ever growing Instant Games Collection which reaches across the PS3, the PS Vita and even the PS4.

There are plenty more games on its way to the console in 2014 as well like Dark Souls II, Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi, Murdered: Soul Suspect or South Park: The Stick of Truth to name a few.

Given Microsoft’s history with the original Xbox to Xbox 360 transition, the support of the 360 is likely to drop off and to be honest, the hardware has been showing its age. Booting up the console or bringing up the guide sees the circle spinning much longer than it used to. The PS3 is still a slick machine and runs great – maybe the built in longevity promised by the cell processor is finally paying off.

If you are looking to play more great games and catch up on older ones, the PS3 is truly the only console you need.
