PlayStation Now goes into Full Subscription Mode on Jan 13

Sony announced that the game streaming service PlayStation Now will officially move to a subscription model on the PlayStation 4 which will offer users over 100 PS3 games at launch that will run without a wait, installs or patches via a video stream over the internet. Games include DiRT3, Uncharted, God of War and more.

Remember OnLive? Well, its competition Gaikai was bought buy Sony and they have been working on a game streaming service ever since. Previously streaming was only available on a per game basis which was clearly not enough for gamers wanting a Netflix-like model at a flat monthly fee.

The service will offer subscribers some options in terms of subscription plans, there will be two plans – $19.99 per month, or a three month package for $44.99 which is about $15 per month – we are close to the $10 a month model here, aren’t we?

PS4 PlayStation Now Subscription Model

“Users have been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months, and one of the top requests we get is for an overall subscription to the service. We’re excited to formally announce it today, as the PlayStation Now subscription service will deliver a ton of value by providing instant access to a large and diverse catalogue of games for one low price,” said Phil Rosenberg, Senior Vice President, Business Development and Publisher Relations, SCEA. “We know there are lots of PS4 owners that never owned a PS3, and this is a great way to catch up on games they may have missed.”
