Gamescom Release Date Roundup

Posted by: 8/24/2018

In case you didn’t notice, a LOT of release dates were announced or changed over the past week. There must have been some kind of event or something… For your convenience (not to mention my own), I’ve condensed as many as I could into one place. Don’t party too hard this holiday season, it looks like early 2019 is going to be positively insane.

SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE

From Software’s next project, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 22, 2019. Extended gameplay shown at Gamescom reveals Sekiro to be a more action-focused experience than the Souls games From Software is famous for. A fancy collector’s edition was also revealed, which includes a steelbook case and statue.

BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT

Koji Igarashi’s crowd-funded Castlevania successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been delayed into 2019. In a Kickstarter update, Igarashi explained that feedback made it apparent the game needs more time. The PlayStation Vita version of Bloodstained has been cancelled altogether, and refunds have been offered to those that requested Vita copies of the game.

SHENMUE 3

Fans of Shenmue will have to wait another year to get their hands on Shenmue III. Publisher Deep Silver announced an August 27, 2019 release date for the long-anticipated sequel. Fortunately for the impatient, Shenmue & Shenmue II were released onto current-gen hardware earlier this week.

DARK SOULS TRILOGY

Praise the Sun! Bandai Namco revealed this week that all 3 Dark Souls games, including all their DLC, will be released as a trilogy this fall. Dark Souls Trilogy will release on October 19, 2018, unless you live in Europe. At least Dark Souls Remastered finally comes to Switch the same day.

ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKOWN

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown finally got a release date this week, alongside a new trailer. Players on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will be able to take to the skies on January 18, 2019.

DEVIL MAY CRY 5

Devil May Cry 5, revealed earlier this year at E3, has been given a release date of March 8, 2019. As one would expect, this news came with a new trailer featuring more of the high-octane action one would expect of Devil May Cry. I, for one, cannot wait to wail on demonic swarms with Dante’s new motorcycle-turned-chainsaw-swords.
