It was just a matter of time when Microsoft was going to increase their annual and monthly subscription rates. It is now official, Xbox LIVE will cost 59.99 for 12 months, 24.99 for 3 months and 9.99 for a 1 month subscription on Microsoft’s online service.

Majornelson announced on his blog today that the changes will be effective as of November 1st 2010 in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the US.

In order to facilitate the relationship with the current subscribers Microsoft is offering a ‘Price Lock’ program in which you’ll be able to renew at a discounted 39.99. In addition some retailers like Amazon are discounting 12 month Xbox LIVE Gold Subs for the same price.

Many people will probably complain and scream about this but I have never paid for price for my LIVE subscription, it comes down to being a smart shopper. Besides, Microsoft will be adding new services later this fall such as ESPN streaming, Kinect chat and others. Is it worth the extra 10 bucks a year? Well, we will all be the judge of that.
