CD Project debuts Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser Trailer

Today CD Project Red has finally revealed more about its latest title than just that it’s an RPG set in the Cyberpunk 2020 pen and paper universe.

The studio has released a CG Teaser Trailer that is over two minutes long and is filled with atmosphere and intensity even though it is mostly in slow motion.

“The teaser shows how the Psycho Squad might acquire a new member. The Psycho Squad specializes in combating “psychos” – individuals who overuse implants and substances that boost or otherwise alter the human body. There comes a point when they overdose on these innovations, and their bodies start to rebel against their biological body parts as well as against all things organic around them. Simply put, they start killing people, who they now derisively call ‘meatbags.’

I think this above quote from the press release sets up the trailer perfectly and sounds like a promising aspect of this RPG that is coming out ‘when it’s ready’ as the end of the trailer tells us. Will it be on the new consoles? Will it be PC only? I guess these questions haven’t been answered yet and we will have to wait.

While normal police and security cannot contain these cybernetically altered beings, the MAX-TAC or ‘Maximum Force Tactical Division’ can which is also referred to as ‘Psycho Squad’.

The creators promise that “Cyberpunk 2077” will be true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre. Players will be thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 and into a world where advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity. A multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players will take place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings. Players will have a chance to freely roam the open-world environment and visit places well known from the pen-and-paper RPG “Cyberpunk 2020”, including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.

I am getting a Deus Ex meets Dishonored vibe from this trailer and a lot of the statements made in the release. We are sure to hear and see more of Cyberpunk 2077 as E3 2013 makes its way closer to us.
