Previously Skylanders and Skylanders Giants was developed by ‘Toys for Bob’ – the series creators – which will now get a year off to work on their next big thing for publisher Activision.

Meanwhile ‘Vicarious Visions’ is hard at work to develop Skylanders ‘Swap Force’ – the latest entry into the gazillion Dollar franchise which will come to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii and 3DS. Beenox is working on the Wii version while the 3DS version is being done by n-Space.

Skylanders Swap Force features 16 new special figures which have inter-connecting torsos and bottom halves that can be combined in various combinations to create new and unique gameplay. You can imagine combining a monster with a robot and so on. The game is in early development and we have much more news to come.

“With Skylanders, we didn’t just create a beloved new franchise, we actually created an entirely new category that brings the world of physical toys and video games together like never before. And now with Skylanders SWAP Force, we are pushing the genre we created forward with another big innovation: customization,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “The idea that kids can customize their own characters in the physical world, and have their unique combinations recognized in the virtual world, is an idea as big as the concept of bringing toys to life itself.”
