Imagine a world where the normalcy of current civilization does not have place anymore. Imagine an earth that only remotely resembles what used to be. Imagine surviving on a planet that is scarce on resources and filled with short tempers, guns and survival of the fittest.
This is Defiance.
Trion Worlds is currently developing an open world MMO third person shooter, that pins players against the common threat as they scour the world for alien technology to scavenge or use to modify themselves and the world they live in.
Not everyone will take to this new way of living lightly and you will not be welcomed by the human purists if there is only a smidgen of alien tech in or on you. Defiance will allow players to enter this future version of earth and either play along with others online or simply take the journey lone wolf style.
Trion Worlds’ Defiance will run side by side with the SyFy Television series. While the game takes place in a futuristic San Francisco Bay Area, the TV series is centered around St. Louis which is now called Defiance by the locals.
The near future world of Defiance is the aftermath of a long war between humans and aliens called ‘Votans’, which is a combination of various alien races who came to earth to find a new home after their planet was destroyed. In Defiance some human and Votans factions have joined forces to survive and look out for themselves in this alien altered earth that is dangerous to all of its inhabitants.
While it is yet unclear how to the game and TV show will work together exactly, I would be lying if I said that I cannot wait for April 15th – the day the game will be available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as the premiere of the TV show on SyFy. Check out more footage of the game here.
