With games like Saints Row IV, Grand Theft Auto V, Beyond: Two Souls, The Last of Us and Disney Infinity the PS3 and Xbox 360 have proven that there is some decent life left in the current generation of hardware.

However, there is no way around it, the new consoles are coming and want to push us to drop $399 on a PS4 and $499 on the Xbox One – here is our list of reasons why you may want to skip your mortgage payment in November (please don’t actually get behind on your mortgage).

Top 5 Xbox One and PS4 releases for 2013

#1 – Watch Dogs (PS4 and Xbox One)

#2 – Killzone Shadow Fall (PS4)

#3 – Battlefield 4 (PS4 and Xbox One)

#4 – Forza 5 (Xbox One)

#5 – FIFA 14 (PS4 and Xbox One)

While Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4 and even FIFA 14 will be available on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well this fall, the games will be only be truly experience the way they were designed to be on the PS4 and Xbox One. Watch Dogs is a next gen game and requires much larger hardware power than a PS3 or Xbox 360 can deliver at this stage.

Battlefield 4 is DICE’s masterpiece of graphics design, scale and gameplay, if you play it on the current gen the experience just won’t live up to what the game should be.

Lastly, FIFA 14 on Xbox One and PS4 will be powered by the new Ignite Engine that won’t be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 – the current generation of consoles will have FIFA 14 available but the true improvements to gameplay and graphics Igine has to offer won’t be part of that experience.

FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Legends Mode

Killzone Shadow Fall and Forza 5 are true next gen games that won’t be available anywhere else and only playable on the PS4 and Xbox One respectively.

Some of the other games I wanted to list here but didn’t make our Top 5 are of course Call of Duty Ghosts and Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag which undoubtedly will be amazing games on Xbox One and PS4.
