Are the PS3 and Xbox 360 dead in the water?

Are the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 finally dead in the water? Are our good old faithfuls done? Kaput and over with?

The short and simple answer is yes but no. Not such a simple answer after all, was it?

After 7 and 8 years of being on the market, the Xbox 360 and PS3 have both sold well over 70 million consoles worldwide, that is a massive install base and nothing to scoff at, not even with the next gen big brothers Xbox One and PS4 looming on the horizon.

Sure, we will all be talking about the new consoles, and how shiny they are, how much power they have and so on. However, millions and millions of gamers will be playing games on the PS3 and 360 for the next couple of years and price cuts are on the horizon.

Game publishers like EA, Activision and Ubisoft will likely continue to have developers make games for these ‘old’ boxes and with looming price cuts, the install base will continue to rise. We will see new versions of FIFA, Call of Duty and Battlefield hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 for 2 more years unless something drastically changes to consumer behavior.

Keep in mind, those new shiny boxes are 400 and 500 Dollars. Not everyone will have the money to buy them.
