5 Video Game Sequels we actually want to play

Video game sequels are often considered ‘lame’ or ‘an easy out’ to fans of the medium which we can sympathize with. While Assassin’s Creed games are fantastic and Call of Duty is still fun, we all get some level of franchise fatigue. This is why we put together a list of 5 games we actually want to play sequels of.

# 5 Monkey IslandThe original Monkey Island games from Lucas Arts were some of the best fun I can remember having. The point and click adventures were funny, challanging and witty to an extent that they burned themselves into my memory. We saw re-releases of Monkey Island 1 and 2 as well as Tales of Monkey Island game from Telltale but what we truly want is for Double Fine to hunker down and make a new game in the series. Broken Age seems to show that the studio has the right talent to do so.

# 4 Alpha ProtocolWhen SEGA released the semi-broken Alpha Protocol, many gamers brushed it off as a bad game with bad controls and boss fights but underneath it was a great idea for a stealth game with decision making and narrative that had glimmers of potential I don’t recall seeing since then. Alpha Protocol was a game I loved playing and wanting to see more of, too bad SEGA won’t ever touch this IP again.

# 3 LA NoireTeam Bondi was working on LA Noire for a very long time and Rockstar eventually put the game out that impressed with a great story, incredible facial animation and scanning but fell on its face a bit with an open world that was empty and mechanics that weren’t quite as polished and well thought out as they should have been. We want Rockstar to hunker down once again and give this IP another go on the next generation of consoles.

# 2 Mirror’s EdgeThe fan favorite parkour game DICE and EA left many of us in awe of its vision, mechanics, soundtrack and visual design. Mirror’s Edge was a fantastic game and a daring new IP that ended up not selling well enough for EA to make another one. While DICE and EA said they are making Mirror’s Edge 2 (which is actually a prequel), I still won’t believe its really happening until it’s on the shelf. Have Faith.

# 1 The SaboteurI have to say that I miss Pandemic, the studio that brought us the Mercenary games and more importantly, The Saboteur. The game took place in 1940’s World War II occupied Paris. We took the role of a drunken race car driving mechanic named Sean Devlin that seeks revenge on the Nazis. I loved the Black and White play on the occupied world. The fact that I could drive around in Paris, climb buildings and shoot Nazis to liberate the french city. The charm of The Saboteur was so overwhelming that I am in shock EA hasn’t pulled out a sequel yet.
