PS4, PS Vita TV and how Sony couldn’t be more Hardcore

Today Sony held it’s pre-TGS event and didn’t hold back much as Sony Japan not only announced a redesigned PlayStation Vita, a brand new PS Vita TV micro-console but also told us why every gaming enthusiast should pay attention.

Sure, you may say the slimmer, lighter and more battery friendly Vita is just ‘meh’ and that the different colors don’t matter, which I may even agree with, but when you combine it with your brand new PS4 and the PS Vita TV this fall, it may just be an unavoidable purchase.

PS Vita Redesign Release Date March 10 2013

While the redesigned Vita isn’t confirmed to come to the US, neither is the PS Vita TV mini box, it is probably a safe bet that we will get this announcement at Tokyo Game Show later this year. I won’t even go on about Vita TV being a major competitor to Apple TV and Roku (it plays Vita, PSP and PS One games along with the usual video streaming) because I don’t have to make that point.

PS Vita TV will be your living room hub catalyst that helps pull together your Vita and PS4 experience as a remote connection to your entertainment and a Vita console. The Vita is your streaming solution on the go if you want to finish beating that boss in Killzone Shadow Fall or stream a movie from your PS4 hard drive while your mobile phone companion app helps you keep track of invites or messages on the go – you can even buy and download games from the mobile app.

Sony has created four devices (including the mobile app), that cater to the hardcore, the gaming enthusiast – that’s us folks. While Microsoft seems to further stray from being a pure gaming machine, Sony takes steps to get even closer to being the ultimate gamer brand – this comes from a person who does most of his current gaming on an Xbox 360.

Sony is using the Vita platform and the PS4 to connect the PlayStation experience and bring it to you regardless where you are, who you’re with or what you want to do. It seems like an easy case to make when looking at the pure amount of PlayStation content is being put out there.

I imagine a world where I can remotely plat PS4 on any TV in my house via PS Vita TV, or take my PS4 gaming on the road, streaming Knack from a coffee shop and downloading the latest game or demo via my mobile app as friends taunt me or send me a video of how much butt they are kicking.

I cannot wait for this holiday and get my hands dirty – let’s play – forgive me if I am getting a bit excited!
