Valve announces the Steam Controller

Yes, we hoped, begged and pleaded but Valve did not give us Half Life 3.

After the company announced Steam OS and Steam Machines, today’s final announcement completes the living room experience with the Steam Controller.

A different kind of gamepad

Valve says it knew to make an operating system and even a game machine for the living room but was challenged by the input device. The Steam Controller needed to be uncompromising in a way that it would “bridge the gap from the desk to the living room”.

Valve says it produced a controller that is not only incredibly precise and low on latency but also made of high quality materials. The Steam Controller will work with classic games as well as new ones because Valve ‘fooled’ the games into thinking you are using a keyboard when you’re playing older titles.

Furthermore, the Steam Controller features Dual Trackpads instead of Joysticks as well as buttons and a touchscreen similar to the Dual Shock 4 from Sony.
